Gatesgarth values trace back 70 years to the inspiring journeys of Ermine Simpson and Ivy George. These remarkable women immigrated from the Caribbean in the 1950’s, leaving behind everything to build a better life for their families in the UK.
At 93, Ermine remains devoted to her community, often found preparing meals and caring for those in need. Her heart for others led her to open her home to families and their children seeking a better life in the UK.
Ermine and her late husband, Cebert, exemplified community service, even hosting Dr. Baistow’s GP practice in their home on Sundays. Her selfless spirit and generosity continues to touch many lives, she continues to share what she has to support others.
Ivy, now 96, embodies resilience and determination. Overcoming earthquakes, hurricanes, and language barriers after migrating from a French-speaking Caribbean Island, she built a life of hard work, working from a school kitchen assistant to a cleaner at the Museum of London until her retirement.
Her warmth, strength and adventurous spirit leaves a lasting impact on those around her. Even in her senior years, she remains undaunted:
